KALORAMA

Washington, D.C.'s Prestigious Enclave

Welcome to Kalorama

Washington’s Historic and Elegant Sanctuary

Kalorama isn’t just a neighborhood—it’s a name synonymous with legacy, privacy, and prestige. Nestled quietly in the heart of Northwest D.C., Kalorama offers the rare blend of timeless architecture, political and diplomatic influence, and peaceful tree-lined streets—all just minutes from the cultural pulse of the city.

A Storied History

Home to presidents, poets, and power players.

The name "Kalorama" comes from Greek, meaning “beautiful view,” and its story is woven deeply into the fabric of American history. Once home to Thomas Jefferson’s vice president and later to President Woodrow Wilson, whose residence remains a national landmark, Kalorama has long drawn the country’s most influential residents.

Today, the neighborhood continues its tradition of hosting leaders—from Barack and Michelle Obama, to Jeff Bezos, to a constellation of ambassadors and diplomats.

Architectural Significance

Where heritage and design meet.

  • Kalorama’s residential streets are a showcase of historic architecture, with homes spanning:

  • Beaux-Arts mansions

  • Georgian and Federal Revival estates

  • Classic DC rowhouses with intricate façades

  • Modern reinterpretations with timeless proportions

Many of these homes are preserved within the Kalorama Triangle and Sheridan-Kalorama historic districts. Properties here are often accompanied by storied histories, hand-carved details, and dignified scale—restored with modern comforts and world-class design.

Around The Block

Kalorama—Greek for “fine view”—gets its name from a large, classical estate built on one of the city’s highest elevations in 1807. Though the estate is gone, the eponymous neighborhood is now home to some of DC’s chicest addresses, from diplomatic homes and embassies to Mediterranean, Colonial and Georgian-revival mansions.

What To Expect:

As one of the city’s earliest developments, the leafy streets of this wholly residential neighborhood are off the grid—they were exempted from DC’s gridded street-layout system as development crept outward from downtown. The result is that these distinguished homes and classic old apartment buildings feel a world away from the bustling city around them.
